week 13 - Jesus and Witness

For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline. So do not be ashamed to testify about our Lord, or ashamed of me his prisoner. But join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God, who has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. - 2 Timothy 1:7-24 (NIV)

week 11 - Jesus and Work

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord - Colossians 3:23

Check out the transformation journal readings this week and share your thoughts.

"But work in the Benedictine tradition, enjoyable or not, exalted or humble, is in no conflict with the spiritual. Indeed, it too is prayer, a principle best expressed in the classic Benedictine dictum Laborare est orare - To work is to pray. There is no separation between work in the sense of secular, non-spiritual toil and the spiritual in the sense of uplifting relief from its tedium. Benedictines were the first people in history to claim that work is sacred." (45)

"The work itself is prayer. Work done as well as possible. Work done for others first and yourself second. Work you are thankful for. Work you enjoy, that uplifts you. Work that celebrates existence, whether it's growing grain in the fields or using God-given skills – like yours. All this is prayer that binds us together and therefore to God." (202)

weeks 8, 9 & 10

Are you behind in the journal? I was. Going out of town, the end of the school year, work-time, family-time, play-time: they all take chunks out of my day to the point where I just think - well I can always catch up tomorrow. Suddenly it is three weeks later and I felt I would never catch up. So I didn't really try to, I just got back on board.

Here are some resources I discovered while skimming over the weeks I "missed":
